Burden of Disease and Informal Caregiving Among Elderly Americans with Cirrhosis

The incidence, prevalence, demographic characteristics, mortality, and resource utilization among elderly Americans with cirrhosis are not well characterized.  Furthermore, the impact on informal caregivers is not known.  In other chronic diseases such as heart failure, the importance of interventions to support disease self-management and informal caregiving is recognized.  We are using nationwide data to develop a baseline understanding of this problem in cirrhosis.
